Artist Interview: Goodngone

Tell us about yourself and your music

Goodngone’s sound is a bit of a hybrid. I am from Texas, thus our vocal sound is somewhat country, but we all grew up listening to and playing rock music so our music is on the rocky side. This all equates to country-rock or what we call rocking Texas country!

Talk to us more about your latest release

Our latest release (2-1-17) is Red Red Roses. I wanted to write a song that used colors to illustrate the feelings associated with finding the right person to spend your life with. The music is classic country sounding with a modern edge, much like alot of our songs, but this one is probably more classic country than we have been in a while.

What inspired you to write this release?

I wanted to write a song that would make people feel happy, particularly those that are in love with who they believe is the right match for them. I didn’t set out to write a “wedding song”, but this could fit that bill for some.

Any plans to release a video?

There is a video being produced for this song. It will be an animated lyric video, as full motion picture videos are out of the budget for most unsigned independent artists.

Any plans to hit the road?

We usually stick to the North Texas circuit doing festivals and special events, but sometimes venture into Oklahoma when called upon.

As an indie artist, how do you brand yourself and your music to stand out from the rest of the artists out there?

Being an indie, we don’t really have to worry about conforming. So we do have the freedom to produce whatever we think sounds good, instead of trying to make it sound like a particular genre, so satisfy powers that be. I think we stand out because we don’t fit neatly into any one genre. We are country and we are rock. We are usually somewhere in between. We write music with good hooks and singalongability.

Who have you been listening to lately?

I have been listening to Keith Urban’s catalogue lately. He has a niche that is obviously geared towards the love song crowd, but I have been studying his song’s structures and guitar work. I have enjoyed playing along and seeing how he crafts aggressive guitar work into a palatable hit song.

Tell us about your passions

Besides music, my other passions are pretty much sports. I play ice hockey several nights a week. Its a good way to keep fitness in your life and have fun doing it. We love our football here in Texas, so it’s just a part of life here for almost everyone.

What else is happening next in your world?

We are finishing up several new songs which will be released over the next few months. They are in the mastering process now. The new model in music distribution is to release one song at a time, as most consumers no longer purchase a full album. They stream one song at a time, so we figure we’ll just release one song at a time to fit the current mode of music consumption.

Thanks for an awesome interview, Jimmie!
