Richard Sills 'Heaven's Door' – 30 Years in the Making
Musician, educator, scientist, humorist, born again Christian. This is what makes Palm Beach, Florida’s Richard Sills tick, resulting in his latest published work, Heaven’s Door. A blend of contemporary Christian and pop, the album features a number of like-minded composers and musicians to create a memorable 12-track experience that holds onto the listener long after the final note fades.
While the production of Heaven’s Door spans 30 years from 1983-2013, Sills joined forces with jazz producer Mickey Leonard to craft an album capable of everything from pop-rock to full orchestrated ballads. With Sills penning the lyrics and composing original melodies, Leonard helped to co-write additional music and perform piano on the record.
As you navigate the tour-de-force that is Heaven’s Door, the album’s central theme – unrequited love with love prevailing – quickly becomes apparent. Sills is joined by vocalists Lou Lanza and Shirley Lemmon to help paint his musical portrait of passion, emotion and honesty, splashed with rich musical tones and soothing, velvet-smooth vocals. Inherently unique and inspired, especially when compared to many of his contemporary Christian peers’ work, the piece reaches its dramatic conclusion with “In Love with You.”
Sills explained his vision saying, “I fell in love when I was 16 to Bettie-Julia, and she has been the inspiration of what I have created. Nothing ever came of the romance, but it is this unrequited love that runs through my creations.”
Heaven’s Door is available for digital download via iTunes and Amazon now, and you can connect with Richard Sills on his official Facebook page to stay updated on all of the latest news.
