Badass/Multi-Instrumentalist Jaybird Releases Solo Album

The evolution of Jay Nicholas is now complete, from a hardcore sk8 punk bassist on the streets of Queens in the 80s, to engineer and session player at legendary hip hop studio Chung King in the 90s, to a rock n rollin, groove metal bangin, funk soldier in the 00s, to today's electro soul crooning, songwriter, instrumentalist, producer on a creative tear.
JaybirdJay Nicholas is a music veteran who's been around the block and back several times. Contributing bass, guitar, writing and production to bands as varied as the spectrum has primed the pump of creativity that has produced the first of many great solo efforts. Combining hip hop drums with bluesy guitars, fat production, melodic vocals and personal lyrics, this debut shows a rare command of a wide variety of highly developed and listenable skills.
Working side by side in the recording studio with legendary artists such as David Bowie, Lauryn Hill, Smashing Pumpkins, Ric Ocasek, Blondie, Run DMC, Wu Tang Clan and Eminem (among many others) and working as house engineer for LL Cool J and Wyclef Jean has laid a groundwork of potent skills to compliment the natural, instinctive musicality. All of those varied influences come together on the stunning first solo album, "Jaybird."
Raw yet tuneful, funky as hell and rocking, Jaybird is a potent brew of rugged drums and thumping bass under jazzy guitars, smooth and greasy keys topped off by the voice, melodies, harmonies and lyrics of an artist who has come into his own with a killer set of modern rhythm and soul. The completeness of the musical concept (all songwriting, vocals, instruments, programming, recording, mixing and production were done by Jay) is just one impressive aspect of this amazing debut.
