Heart the Dark Breaks Ground with Debut EP

Throw out the playbook. Forget the genre borders and boundaries. Hailing from Los Angeles, Heart the Dark is blurring the musical lines with an unorthodox writing style and inspired sound borne from band leader Zack Shada’s writing, singing and playing. Fresh off the release of their debut self-titled EP and ready to take on the world, Southern California is just the first target on his list for musical takeover.
Heart the DarkDriven primarily by lyrics and melodies, Zack allows the instruments to sense their way through each individual song, letting the music live and breathe to create a magical experience free from restriction and rule. While handling vocals, songwriting, piano, bass and guitar, his brother Josh Shada provides additional guitar and backup vocals along with Seth Renken on drums and percussion.
Each of the 4 tracks on Heart the Dark exhibits its own personality, blending in elements of alt rock, pop, alt country, folk and more. Kicking off with “Dying Generation,” Shada drops the listener into a deep pool of darker rock under the influence of electronica and hip hop a la Linkin Park before moving into the folksy, jangly pop ballad “Don’t Give Up On Me.” Current Adventure Time and Incredible Crew star Jeremy Shada joins in on vocals for “Sunshine Daisy Rose,” filling the acoustic-driven track with catchy harmonies and a bouncy melody.
With Heart the Dark spreading throughout internet radio and social media, the group now aims to continue writing and producing more tracks for an eventual full-length release. More performances throughout the Greater Los Angeles area are in the works as well, as they work toward a national tour.
Heart the Dark’s debut EP is available to purchase through iTunes and Amazon now, with streaming audio available on their official Sound Cloud page. Check out the music video for “Don’t Give Up On Me” on YouTube and get connected on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram to stay up on all the latest news.
Zack Shada formed Heart the Dark in Los Angeles in 2013.
