Q&A With Melbourne Based Producer R.F.P
Tell us about yourself and your music
So my name is Rory Fraser Peckham, I’m 18 out of Melbourne Australia and I’m a Producer and DJ. Growing up there was always music playing in my house, from De La Soul to Fat Boy Slim there was always something going. When I was thirteen, one of my mates in high school showed me FL Studio and that’s when I started making music. I began producing electronic music for the next couple of years, putting out my stuff on Soundcloud and eventually signing one of my singles “Conversations” to the label EDM.Com. This year I’ve started studying music at uni and began transitioning my production more into beats for artists and placements. This has really opened a lot of doors for me and given me the opportunity to work with some very talented artists and musicians.
Talk to us more about your latest release
My latest release “Blow” was with the very talented Olive Amun, who is also from Melbourne. I reached out to him a while back and sent him the beat, he saw the potential in it and we managed to put something together. The track’s gone on to make placements on several of Spotify’s playlists including New Music Friday and the Drip. It’s out now on all platforms so make sure you check it out.
Any plans to release a video?
Any plans to hit the road?
Yeah definitely, I did have plans to take a couple of trips interstate to Sydney and Brisbane to work with a couple of different people, but COVID has set those back a fair bit. So for the time being I’m going to have to stick to sending out emails and using Facetime to work with some of those guys.
As an indie artist, how do you brand yourself and your music to stand out from the rest of the artists out there?
As a producer, branding and standing out is super important. To stand out from the rest, in my opinion, is achieved by bringing your own characteristics as an individual to the table, everyone is different and this is why you see different successful artists like Pop Smoke, M Huncho and many more artists and producers stand out. Be yourself and you’ll stand out.
Who have you been listening to lately?
I’ve had the recent Pop Smoke album on heavy rotation since it was released. Pop’s versatility on the album has really inspired me to push myself as a producer to try different genres and creative processes in my music production. It’s also got a couple of really good ones to blast in the gym or in the car too, 808 Melo went crazy on a couple of them.
Who are your biggest influences?
My biggest influences at the moment would have to be the UK Drill Producer scene. The work ethic and talent that most of these producers have is unmatched. Although these guys may not know it, Nine One, Yozora, Splash Productions, Subro, and many more are some of my main influences at the moment. The work rate these guys have is something that has really influenced me to push myself as a producer to try and put out as many high-quality productions as I can.
Tell us about your passions
Other than music, Basketball has also played a big part in my life and is my other main passion. When I’m not producing music I’m training. I’ve been playing since I was little and have influenced my work ethic for my music, no days off.
What else is happening next in your world?
I’ve been working on several different projects at the moment which is likely to start coming out later this year. I’m also working on a couple of albums for a number of different Australian artists which I’m also really excited about so keep an eye out for those. Apart from that, I’m going to keep on doing what I’m doing, putting in work, and putting out music.
Thanks for an awesome interview, R.F.P
