Songwriting and Concept Alchemist Da Enigma

DeShean McClinton, aka Da Enigma, is one of the most obscure and ingenious concept writers to come out of Detroit in three decades – to call him anything less than extraordinary is disrespectful to the entire city’s music scene. As a self-taught songwriter, he’s managed to exceed expectations at nearly every turn, leaving some of the industry’s most powerful bigwigs in total and utter disbelief. After arriving on the scene, he made an immediate splash by coining the term “Arabic Soul/Middle Eastern Americana,” which was deemed to be so forward thinking the project was put on the back burner.
Due to geopolitical issues and other concerns, the initial concept of McClinton’s Arabic Soul/Middle Eastern Americana was considered too far ahead of its time for the mainstream industry, prompting him to take matters into his own hands. After breaking ground with a small startup publishing company, Ahead of the Game Music Publishing Company (BMI), he began to introduce a fresh expectation and lingo into the pop culture vocabulary.

Da Enigma is more than a mere songwriter, but rather an entire brand, enabling him to escape being pigeon holed into a single category, forcing people to open their minds and begin grasping the reality of his persona. Alongside his budding young company and music career, McClinton continues to pursue the silver screen, including a supporting role in Band of Drivers, an independent feature film directed by Eric Hoser Willams that’s already on its way to becoming a cult classic. He’s also appeared in roles on networks such as HBO, ABC, The Hallmark Channel FoxSearchLight and most recently AMC’s new police drama, Low Winter Sun which is scheduled to air Aug 11, 2013. McClinton has successfully made the editing cut on nearly every project he’s been a part of, driven by the ‘put up or shut up’ work ethic of The Real Style Casting Agency and Ryan Hill Casting.
McClinton’s latest music project, Message from a Dummy, sees him teaming up with fellow hip hop artist Joey ‘Brickwall’ Sopkowiczs to form the group 2Brothers. This modern masterpiece is jam-packed with standout hits, including “Probation Violation,” “Numbers Game,” “Message from a Dummy” and “Diet Plan.” NME’s online music magazine is one of the first of many media outlets to pick up on the latest hit from Da Enigma, featuring the “Probation Violation” music video on their website.
This fiery pack of new singles are also being distributed by Tunecore.com, as well as iTunes and Amazon, giving fans the chance to get in on the ground floor of this burgeoning musical sensation. As a current member in good standing with the world’s leading independent A&R Company, Taximusic.com, Da Enigma’s new release is being reviewed by several major recording companies, signaling the next critical step in his career.
McClinton continues to stay busy in the studio, beginning to write and collaborate with his newest partner, David Lerner, a vocalist with the all-male singing group, Pella. With a vocal tone similar to a cross between Dave Gahan, Depeche Mode, and John Mayer, the pair are putting their heads together for a new style known as ‘Herbaic Gospel.’

Destined to make his mark on modern music, the writing is already on the wall for this versatile songwriting and concept alchemist. Check out his official ReverbNation page for streaming audio and grab a taste of his latest project, Message from a Dummy. Stay tuned, the best is yet to come!
