IQ Takes on Industry, Thugs Worried
Hip-hop fans weigh in:
Gun violence isn't necessary to sell albums anymore.
Claims reinforced by record-breaking sales of positive rap.
America's teenagers are angry at Hollywood for the continuing glamorization of gangster and thug rap, and many MC's say they feel the need to conform to these expectations as a result of watching TV, movies and music videos. The findings are gleaned from the constant success of artists that represent the glorification of gun violence, and the even bigger successes of the few people that break that mold. According to the Billboard music charts, when a positive rapper such as Kanye West or a creative artist like Eminem emerges, the sales of those albums eclipse those of the typical thug MC.
And now a new MC has arrived.
For the most part, even as early as the 1960's, the most popular music was generated by the hippie movement. It was considered crude and was hated by their parents. They glorified drugs and sex, but not gun violence. IQ is similar to this, but with a much more modern take, bringing the same care-free attitude to hip-hop while also maintaining a fierce battle style. IQ's very strong words and concepts could get him in trouble.
Why would an artist want to interfere with the sales of gangsters with guns, people that could potentially kill him? Does IQ even know anything about what these rappers had to go through? IQ's answer would be "Unfortunately, yes. For someone who scores high on IQ tests, I sure have been to jail a lot or times. After having served 2 sentences at LA County's twin towers, along with other bids in nearby counties, I don't understand why anyone would want to glorify it. The only reason I bring it up, is to have credibility when I tell my listeners that they do not want to go to jail, even once. Most rappers seem to think the world would be a better place with more crime and gun violence, so they glorify it in their records. Either that or they are being "fake" to sell records. Either way, Ifm trying to stop that nonsense, even if it gets me killed. Our kids are too important."
With lyrics like "all these wanna-be Tupac's talkin' about who's harder/While I'm the only one who dares to talk about who's smarter/ I'm a martyr" and "I'm gonna make you thugs go back to sellin' drugs/and tie your guns in bows like Bugs does to Elmer Fudd", there are sure to be some pissed off labels and rappers. But they will surely find out soon that they are going to have to adapt and remove the negativity, because soon artists like IQ will be the "King of the hip-hop world".
