Musiciens Sans Frontieres Rock For Love and Justice on Their New Album "Spread Some Love"

NYC-based internationally touring band MUSICIENS SANS FRONTIERES are proud to announce the official release of their new cd "Spread Some Love" on Endorphin records.

Fusing alternative rock with world beats and experimental soundscapes, this international crew of musicians move beyond boundaries.  The eight song cd tackles issues ranging from fracking and the need for alternative energy in "So Many Ways", to the importance of protest in their version of "Smells Like Teen Spirit".  And it's all wrapped up in a vibrant and hugely danceable package.

The songs from their latest cd originate from various points in the musical lives of husband-and-wife songwriting team Jillie and Thomas Simon, the creative force behind MUSICIENS SANS FRONTIERES - of whose earlier work, Lenny Kaye of the Patti Smith Group has said, "It's my new favorite car music!".
Native Austrian Thomas had originally met New Yorker Jillie, a singer-songwriter-actress, in an East Village cafe and they subsequently went on to record together, marry and tour the U.S., Europe and the Middle East.  They received glowing press, airplay, and were asked to do live tv appearances nationally and internationally.  As Network Of the World (NOW)- UK put it "...one can see why LOVE ALIEN are considered one of the most promising up-and-comers of the N.Y. underground scene."

After having done numerous soundtracks for film and television in the last 6 years, starting with black comedy "Copy Shop" by seven-time Emmy winner William Electric Black (which starred Jillie and is as-yet-unreleased) and "Rocks" for PBS's "Sesame Street" , Thomas began approaching music in a more cinematic way and reformed the band as
Musiciens Sans Frontieres. "Affection," the first track off "Spread Some Love" receiving airplay both in the U.S. and internationally, has an electronica vibe. An earlier version was part of Off-Off Broadway rock musical "The Damned"
composed by Thomas (which the Village Voice called "- a hot ticket not to miss").

Also receiving airplay is MUSICIENS SANS FRONTIERES's psychedelic and tribal rendition of Nirvana's "Smells Like Teen Spirit."  It features a Gamelon sample that Thomas recorded in Indonesia as part of an ongoing project "WalkAbout," for which he records global music with local musicians. Transformed into a paean to documenting injustice and helping to create change, it's music video has gone on to win three awards in 12 international film festivals.

The third song off the album gaining attention is "Legalize", with its own award-winning music video which addresses the economic and social benefits of marijuana legalization.  Musically, the song is a roller-coaster ride featuring a grooving verse and a driving chorus with a strong, tuned down grunge-guitar hook.

The album was recorded over a three year period, with the music videos being  pre-released in 2010 and 2011.  The songs are unified by composer-producer-musician Thomas Simon's tuned down, layered and dense guitar sound (compared by critics to Daniel Ash of Bauhaus and Love and Rockets) and Jillie Simon's "pure angelic voice" (Legends Magazine). The rhythms vary significantly from track to track and Native Columbian drummer Alex Alexander is a master in switching between world beats and heavy rock.  Keith Golden, who, along with Alex previously toured with Dido, holds it down with his solid, rock steady bass lines.

With previous albums having received airplay on national, commercial and college radio stations all over the world, and the just-released "Spread Some Love"  already being played on 23 stations throughout the U.S. and Europe, MUSICIENS SANS FRONTIERES is continuing their quest to tear down frontiers, spread some love and make you move.
